Glycolic acid is the most common alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). It stimulates skin renewal, collagen, and elastin production. In addition to reducing spots and hyperpigmentation, it also diminishes fine lines, wrinkles, acne, scars, and other signs of aging. The Radiant Solution of glycolic acid prevents dead cells from clumping together, increasing cellular turnover.

The skin appears radiant and rejuvenated, reflecting a luminous look.

Glycolic acid is the most commonly used form of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), a group of natural acids derived from certain plants and fruits. With an exfoliating action, glycolic acid helps reduce the barrier of the stratum corneum and increases the penetration of other topical agents, while also stimulating new skin and collagen growth. Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the outer layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold dead cells together. It also stimulates glycosaminoglycans as well as hyaluronic acid. The result is a much smoother skin surface with a more youthful appearance.

Another advantage of glycolic acid is its ability to deposit moisturizing agents within the newly exfoliated skin surface, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and sun damage. When mixed with multivitamins, glycolic acid is also beneficial for reducing stretch marks. AHAs additionally help unclog pores, thus decreasing the tendency to develop acne.

A recent study indicates an additional inhibitory effect of glycolic acid on melanin synthesis through tyrosinase activity in melanocytes, making it effective for treating hyperpigmentation.
