PLUM Bolster: the full-round cylinder for maximum elevation
The full-round cylindrical bolster is one of the oldest and most widely used positioning aids in physiotherapy. It remains essential because it solves a specific problem: elevating a body segment sufficiently to allow the muscles to relax. Placed under the knees in the supine position, it relaxes the psoas and flattens the lumbar lordosis; placed under the ankles in the prone position, it prevents knee hyperextension.
The Weelko PLUM is the full-round cylindrical bolster in the range: medium-density foam that yields without collapsing, a washable cover and a completely round profile. Unlike half-round or three-quarter bolsters, it rests on a single line of contact, so it requires the patient’s weight or a surface with some grip to remain stable — in return, it provides maximum elevation for its diameter.

Professional applications
Lumbar pressure relief. Positioned under the knees in the supine position, the standard positioning technique for acute lower back pain.
Safe prone positioning. Positioned under the ankles, it prevents knee hyperextension during extended back treatment sessions.
Lower-limb elevation. Supports venous return during lymphatic drainage and post-operative care.
Upper-limb support. Stabilises the forearm during elbow, wrist and hand treatments.
Therapeutic exercise. Used as a support or positioning reference during active-assisted mobilisation exercises.
Full-round or half-round bolster
The PLUM is the full-round cylindrical bolster: it provides maximum elevation but can roll unless secured. The SPONG is the half-round bolster: it provides less height, has a flat base and stays where it is placed. Most physiotherapy practices eventually use both because they meet different positioning requirements and are not interchangeable. If you work independently and do not want to reposition equipment between techniques, the half-round bolster is easier to manage.
Care and maintenance
Clean the washable cover with a damp cloth and neutral detergent; it is suitable for use with a healthcare-grade surface disinfectant. Avoid high concentrations of alcohol, as these can dry out the material. Store it horizontally without placing weight on top to prevent permanent deformation of the foam.
