Vitamin A works as an antioxidant on the skin, disarming free radicals that cause tissue and cellular damage. In addition, cell regeneration is increased and collagen increases to give the skin a more youthful appearance.

Vitamin A plays an important role in the synthesis of RNA that produces new, healthy cells. The epidermis is particularly sensitive to vitamin A deficiencies as its basal layer continuously generates new cells that keratinize for the horny layer, the skin's protective barrier. As a consequence of vitamin A deficiency, these cells die prematurely, harden and clog pores and glands. Retinol exfoliates and unclogs pores; it acts on skin density and suppleness by regulating keratinization. Retinol helps to restore damaged skin and improve the appearance of rough, dry or abnormally keratinized skin.
