The HB404 Rubino is the same compact facial tanner as always, but fitted with the 400 W Cosmedico Rubino lamp: alongside the UV radiation that tans, it emits visible red light — the component Cosmedico associates with skin comfort and care. It covers face, neck, shoulders and neckline from a table or dressing table, with an auto shut-off timer and a built-in distance gauge. Compact at 47 × 26 × 18 cm and ready to use whenever you want.

The Cosmedico Rubino combines the UV radiation that produces the tan with visible red light in the same emitter. That is what gives it its characteristic pink glow and what changes how the session feels.
The 400 W Rubino lamp emits UV radiation — the part that activates melanin and produces the tan — together with visible red light. Cosmedico designed this combination so the session feels more pleasant and the skin feels more comfortable afterwards. In practice it is the difference between leaving a session with a tight feeling and leaving it comfortable.
The lamp alone is not enough: what spreads the light evenly is the parabolic reflector combined with the faceted screen. That geometry projects the radiation across the whole tanning window instead of concentrating it in the centre, which avoids patches and darker areas around the nose and cheekbones.
The HB404 has a pull-out tape that comes from the unit itself and sets the correct separation between lamp and face. It is a simple detail but a decisive one: most problems with a home facial tanner come from sitting too close, not from staying too long.
This is the unit for anyone who wants their face to keep up with the rest of the body, or simply not to arrive at January looking pale.

They are two different things coming from the same lamp. It is worth not confusing them.
The HB404 sits on a stable surface and plugs into a domestic socket. Nothing else.
Guideline values for the HB404 Rubino at the distance set by the built-in gauge.
| Skin type | First session | Regular session | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type I — very fair skin that never tans | Not recommended | Not recommended | Must not use artificial tanning |
| Type II — fair skin, burns easily | 3–5 min | 8–10 min | 1–2 times a week |
| Type III — medium skin, tans gradually | 5–8 min | 12–15 min | 2 times a week |
| Type IV — olive skin, rarely burns | 8–10 min | 15–18 min | 2–3 times a week |
| Type V–VI — dark skin | 10–12 min | 18–20 min | 2–3 times a week |
Always leave a minimum of 48 hours between sessions and do not combine the tanner with natural sun on the same day. Respect the distance set by the built-in gauge.
Skin type is a classification describing how your skin reacts to sun exposure. It is based on skin, hair and eye colour, and on how prone you are to burning or tanning. Knowing it helps you choose the safest and most effective tanning practices.
| Skin type | Characteristics | Reaction to the sun |
|---|---|---|
| Type I | Very fair skin, usually with freckles, red or light blond hair, light eyes | Burns easily and rarely tans |
| Type II | Fair skin, blond hair, light eyes | Usually burns, but can tan slightly |
| Type III | Intermediate skin, brown hair, darker eyes | Sometimes burns and tans gradually |
| Type IV | Olive skin, dark hair, dark eyes | Rarely burns, tans well |
| Type V | Dark skin, dark hair and eyes | Rarely burns, tans easily |
| Type VI | Very dark or black skin, dark hair and eyes | Never burns, tans very easily |
To work out your skin type, consider your most common reaction to prolonged sun exposure without protection. Check with a dermatologist if you are unsure or have a history of sun-related skin problems. Warning: people with skin type I must not use artificial tanning equipment.

The lamp is a consumable: sooner or later it has to be replaced. Having someone to supply and fit it is part of the purchase.

The 400 W Cosmedico Rubino emits UV radiation, which is what tans, together with visible red light. The UV part works just like any high-pressure facial tanner; the red light is a comfort addition Cosmedico includes so the session feels more pleasant and the skin feels better afterwards. It does not change the exposure time required.
No. Tanning is produced exclusively by the UV component. Red light is visible and plays no part in pigmentation: its contribution is comfort, not speed.
Face, neck, shoulders and neckline — the area that is on show all year. It is not a full-body unit: canopy sunbeds and tanning beds cover that.
At the distance set by the built-in gauge: the tape pulls out of the unit itself and that is the correct separation. Sitting closer is the most frequent mistake and the one that causes redness.
It depends on use. At one or two sessions a week, a high-pressure lamp performs for a long time before losing intensity. When you notice you need more minutes for the same result, that is the moment. We stock the original replacement.
Yes. Tanning accelerators are designed to improve results in tanning units: they hydrate the skin and support melanin production, so colour appears sooner and lasts longer. Always use cosmetics made specifically for tanning units, never self-tanners or creams with sun protection.
It is not advisable to use sunscreen over your whole body during tanning sessions, since its job is to block UV rays and it would cancel out the tanning effect. However, you can apply sunscreen to specific areas that need extra protection, such as scars, marks or sensitive areas.
Yes. Although you should not cover your whole skin, it is worth protecting specific spots such as scars, recent tattoos, marks or particularly sensitive areas with a high-factor sunscreen.
We recommend using the tanner 2 to 3 times a week, leaving rest time between sessions so the skin is not overexposed to UV rays.
We recommend waiting at least 48 hours between sessions. It is also important to avoid using the tanning unit and being exposed to natural sunlight on the same day, to prevent UV overexposure.
Yes, protective goggles must always be worn during tanning sessions to prevent eye damage from UV radiation exposure.
Yes, it is important to remove contact lenses before a UVA session to avoid irritation or possible eye damage.
One advantage of indoor UVA tanning units is that they do not depend on weather conditions or external factors such as the ozone layer or fluctuations in solar radiation, which allows a controlled and consistent tanning experience. Even so, times, rest periods and eye protection must always be respected.
We recommend using specialist cosmetics that help hydrate the skin during tanning sessions. These products are designed to counteract moisture loss and improve the appearance of the skin, helping the tan last longer.
Avoid perfumes, colognes, creams with citrus, essential oils and products with retinol or exfoliating acids for at least 10 days before the session. Also avoid products with lemon, orange or bergamot, and certain photosensitising medications such as antibiotics (tetracyclines), NSAIDs (ibuprofen) or diuretics. Check with your doctor if you have any doubt about a medication you are taking.
If you are allergic to natural sunlight, you should not expose yourself to UVA rays, as the radiation is similar and may cause an adverse skin reaction.
White patches in areas such as the shoulder blades or buttocks can occur due to pressure on these areas while lying down, which reduces blood flow and the distribution of the tan. Alternating between horizontal and vertical tanning beds can help minimise this effect.
There are several types of home tanning units, including horizontal and vertical models. Horizontal units suit those who prefer to tan lying down, while vertical ones are ideal for those who prefer to stand or for smaller spaces. The choice depends on the space available at home and your personal tanning preferences.
Tell us your skin type and whether you already use any tanning equipment, and we will tell you whether the Rubino is worth it over the standard HB404.
