Being a small molecule composed of 3 amino acids – cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine – glutathione is a powerful antioxidant found within every cell, protecting it against free radicals.

This active ingredient plays a significant role in regulating various cellular events such as gene expression, protein and DNA repair and synthesis, immune response, toxin and carcinogen metabolism, immune system stimulation, and the prevention of fat oxidation. Additionally, it is involved in the body’s detoxification process by binding to toxins such as heavy metals, chemical pollutants, and carcinogens, transforming them into forms that can be easily eliminated.

The body produces and stores the largest amounts of GSH in the liver, where it is used to detoxify harmful compounds. GSH levels decline with age, rendering the body more vulnerable to damage from free radicals and thereby accelerating the aging process.

This component neutralizes free radicals and harmful peroxide molecules, and also recharges oxidized vitamins C and E so that the body can reuse them. It is further involved in skin lightening processes. Studies provide evidence of its role in the melanogenic pathway and its anti-melanogenic effect.
