It prevents photoaging, improves acne signs and scars, and provides a younger appearance thanks to its five active ingredients:
High-concentration glutathione, vitamin C, and citric acid act as antioxidants for the skin. Glutathione is also detoxifying and an inhibitor of melanin synthesis, with this action working synergistically with kojic acid.
Glycolic acid is used for its exfoliating effect as it increases the penetration of other topical agents while depositing moisturizing agents into the surface of freshly exfoliated skin. In this way, it reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, as well as improves sun-damaged skin.

Age spots caused by aging, sun exposure, or disorders such as melasma have necessitated the development of formulations like BCN MELANO, which, thanks to its five carefully selected active ingredients for their depigmenting and antioxidant action, achieve the goal of treating these skin alterations and restoring a smooth, even, and radiant skin tone. These five ingredients are glutathione 600, glycolic acid, kojic acid, vitamin C, and citric acid.

High-concentration glutathione (600 mg per gram of tissue) together with vitamin C makes this product a powerful antioxidant for the skin, reducing damage caused by free radicals – a harmful byproduct of sunlight, smoke, and pollution. Moreover, glutathione plays an important role in protecting cells during aging, also acting as a detoxifying agent and melanin synthesis inhibitor. This capability makes it an essential component in melasma treatments, which is essentially a hyperpigmentation of the skin, characterized by irregular macules ranging from light brown to grayish-brown in sun-exposed areas of the face, and which may appear due to pregnancy, intake of anovulatory agents, or in darker skin phenotypes.

This latter action is enhanced by the presence of kojic acid (5-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-2-pyrone) in the formulation, as it is a powerful inhibitor of melanin production – hence its well-known "whitening" effect. It has the advantage of not staining the skin even when exposed to the sun and is not toxic to skin cells, unlike other depigmenting agents. Therefore, in addition to treating spots, it provides a more even skin tone and adds radiance.

Numerous studies have demonstrated its depigmenting action following exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which would be equivalent to a sunscreen effect (Mishima, Nair, and Tramposch et al.), as well as its beneficial effect against melasma (Mishima, 1987; Nakayama et al., 1981 and 1982; Minami, 1982). It is also characterized by excellent tolerability, as proven in various clinical trials. Another component of BCN Melano is glycolic acid, the most frequently used beta-hydroxy acid (AHA). Thanks to its exfoliating action, it reduces the barrier of the stratum corneum and increases the penetration of other topical agents, while simultaneously stimulating skin and collagen regeneration. The result is much smoother skin and a younger appearance.

Another advantage of glycolic acid is its ability to deposit moisturizing agents into the surface of freshly exfoliated skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, improving sun-damaged skin, and thereby acting in full synergy with the other components of this formula. Vitamin C is a highly effective antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals, inhibits melanin, stimulates the production of the hydrolipidic film, and enhances collagen synthesis. Its topical use is vital for the healing of wounds and sunburns as it also helps stabilize collagen and repair elastic tissue. It is used for the prevention and treatment of photoaging as well as the appearance of "broken blood vessels." Finally, citric acid is a tricarboxylic organic acid commonly used in cosmetics for its antimicrobial and antioxidant action, which contributes to the stability, efficacy, and improved appearance of the final product, in addition to adding its antioxidant effect to that of the other active ingredients.
