How an infrared sauna works

Infrared emitters operate within the same wavelength range as the heat produced by the human body, so the energy is absorbed into the first few millimetres of tissue rather than being wasted heating the air. This allows intense sweating at a moderate temperature, making it ideal for people who cannot tolerate the extreme heat of a Finnish sauna.

How to choose your infrared sauna

  • EMF level: check the emission data declared by the manufacturer if this is an important consideration for you.
  • Wood: cedar, basswood and hemlock are the most common options due to their stability and heat resistance.
