A barber chair is designed for services where the client reclines (shaving, beard grooming, facial treatments): backrest up to 120-150°, integrated footrest with platform, 360° swivel, structure weighing 50-80 kg and floor-anchored base. A hairdressing chair has limited recline (30-40°), star base with wheels, no footrest and weighs 15-25 kg. If you offer cutting and shaving, you need a barber chair — with a hairdressing chair you cannot recline for straight razor work or create that classic barbershop feel.

Hydraulic is the industry standard: adjusts height by pedal, no power socket needed, minimal maintenance and the pump lasts 8-12 years. Electric only pays off if you do more than 15 services a day with frequent height adjustments — it offers speed and precision but requires a power outlet and costs more. 95% of barbershops in Spain use hydraulic chairs. Minimum 120° for comfortable shaving. Professional models reach 150° (near-horizontal position). The key is that the mechanism has multi-position locking — if the backrest moves during shaving, it compromises safety. A removable headrest makes neck access easier. For cutting only, 100-110° is enough.

Entry range: 150-180 kg. Mid and high range: 200-250 kg. The figure varies by brand and model — always check the data sheet. Die-cast aluminium bases (like the Fersan Mamba series) offer more capacity than standard steel with less dead weight.

PU or PVC leatherette, high density, resistant to barbershop products (alcohol-based aftershave, dyes, waxes). Smooth leatherette cleans faster between clients. Tufted upholstery looks better but traps cut hair in the seams — needs weekly compressed air. Dark colours (black, brown) hide wear better. The choice depends on your barbershop style and how quickly you need to clean between services.
